Pips Region Symbols Explained

  • Number (e.g., 10): All pip values inside the colored region must add up to this exact sum. For example, a 2-cell region with 12 can only be 6 + 6.
  • Equal (=): Every cell in the region must contain the exact same pip number (e.g., all 3s or all 0s).
  • Not Equal (≠): No two cells in the region can share the same pip value.
  • Greater Than (>) & Less Than (<): The sum of pips in the region must be strictly greater than or less than the displayed number (e.g., < 3 on 2 cells means the sum is 0, 1, or 2).

3 Expert Tips to Solve Pips Faster

  1. Start at the Extremes: Look for 2-cell regions with very high sums (11, 12, >10) or very low sums (0, 1, <2). They usually have only 1 or 2 valid domino combinations.
  2. Spot Double Dominoes Early: Any 2-cell = region completely covered by a single domino forces a double tile (like 4-4).
  3. Cross-Check Neighboring Borders: Dominoes frequently straddle two different colored regions. Lock in one half using our Known Pips filter above to see what remains for the rest of the region.
